March 3, 2008 - The Hush Sound

The Hush Sound, Charlotte Sometimes, The Secret Handshake, Paper Rival 3/3/08 @ The Mad Hatter (Covington, KY)

This show was for Brianna's birthday! I've wanted to see the Hush Sound for so long. And the Mad Hatter is one of the tiniest venues around, it was amazing. We got there after the first band (I don't even know their name) and still managed to get second row. I really loved Charlotte Sometimes. She didn't even have a record deal when we saw her, so that was cool. The Secret Handshake got everyone excited, as we were getting a little tired. Paper Rival had some pretty deep stuff...it was crazy. I didn't get any setlists this show, sorry.

Paper Rival

The Secret Handshake

The Hush Sound

Bob & Greta's vocals were ASTOUNDING. The Hush Sound has some serious talent. One standout song was their cover of "Heat Wave." It was awesome.

December 13, 2007 - Hannah Montana

Hannah Montana, Jonas Brothers 12/13/07 @ UsBank Arena (Cincinnati, OH)

I'm not even entirely sure that this deserves its own blog post. I'm not too fond of the Jo Bros or Hannah Montana...but I had to take my little sister. Honestly, I've never seen her happier. And hey, I met Billy Ray Cyrus. So it wasn't a total bust.

I also saw JAYNELL! =]

November 26, 2007 - Tegan and Sara

Tegan and Sara, Northern State 11/27/07 @ Newport Music Hall (Columbus, OH)

Molly and I decided to force my uncle to drive us to Columbus on a rainy monday just for Tegan and Sara. Our lives will never ever be the same. That concert had changed me in so many ways...

Lesley was my hero that night. While we fought rainy traffic in the 2.5 hour drive, Lesley had been sitting outside the venue since noon. When Molly, Uncle Ed, & I came up to NMH, she gladly let us join her. Afterall, we were wearing matching Brandi Carlile jackets(:

Northern State opened up the show. They're 3 white, girl rappers. Political power rap, that is. My uncle couldn't stand them. However, I LOVED THEM. They had so much energy, and really got the crowd excited. Spero, Sprout, and Hesta Prynn really got it going on!

Then...TEGAN AND SARA! They absolutely blew my mind. It was unbelievable. They played songs I wasn't expecting (like City Girl) and I've never had so much fun, singing along, dancing, screaming, listening to their banter[: The show was filmed too, and streamed online. How cool is that?! AND WE WERE IN THE FRONT ROW. This picture basically sums up the whole night....

After the show, I bought a crazy amount of merch. Lindsey (merch girl) thought I was funny and adorable for buying so much. Embarrassing? Yes. Then I bought a Northern State shirt, which i adore. It's bubblegum blue with hot pink writing that says CAN I KEEP THIS PEN? Love it. And then I bought a poster, which they signed! Yay. Then we drove home listening to the sweet sounds of Under Feet Like Ours while Molly fell asleep on my lap. Then we got up 4 hours later for school. Perfect[:

November 21, 2007 - Candice Clark

Candice Clark 11/21/07 @ The Mansion (Cincinnati, OH)

I somehow found Candice on MySpace, and thought it was way cool that she lives in Cincinnati! I immediately bought her EP on iTunes, it's amazing! She kept me posted on her shows, and we did a Tieger/Clark girls trip to see her!

She played songs by Flyleaf, Avril Lavigne, and Kelly Clarkson as well as all her own! Such a fun show, Candice is a great gal, hope to see her more in the future!

October 28, 2007 - Pat Monahan & I Nine

Pat Monahan & I Nine 10/28/07 @ Madison Theatre (Covington, KY)

Photobucket

I think this was my first show at The Madison, now my favorite place on earth! The driving force behind going to this show was to see Luis play for Pat (Pat's the lead vocalist/writer for Train). And Miranda's in love with Pat. The show was so great, so much energy. The opener, I Nine, was really cool. The girl's (Carmen) vocals were like Anna Nalick's, with a rock edge. Charlotte Sometimes is the same way, who actually opened for Pat the first half of the tour.

At one point during Pat's set, I wasn't paying much attention, and Luis slid on his knees infront of me, and the neck/head of his guitar almost went through my actual neck/head. It was freaky. Samantha and Luis found it hilarious that my life was dangered in that instant. Haha.

Pat played a pretty long set, a good mix of his solo stuff, Train stuff, and covers. Well-rounded show[: We talked to Luis, Pat, and the rest of the band after the show. Luis GAVE ME HIS HAT. I kept stroking it, so he was like "Happy Birthday a month late!" And gave it to me. Gotta love him.

October 26, 2007 - Ok Go

Ok Go & Ava Raiders 10/26/07 @ Clowes Memorial Hall (Indianapolis, IN)

Third Ok Go show! This was a really cool concert in the aspect that Ok Go invited the first few rows of the audience (which we were in) to come sit/stand on the stage for a bunch of unplugged songs. I got really cool videos of that, except I'm so behind and they're not on youtube.

Oh, and I knew a lot more songs that were played this time around, heh.

October 5/6, 2007 - TSwift, DPeck

Brad Paisley, Rodney Atkins, Taylor Swift 10/5/07 @ Riverbend (Cincinnati, OH)

Second Taylor Show! This was so much fun. We were pretty far away from the stage, totally different from Wal Mart, but it was cool. We got to meet Taylor. I complimented her on her lyrics to "Cold As You" and she said I was the first one to do so and she really appreciated it[:

Danielle Peck 10/6/07 @ Aurora County Fair (IN)

Third Danielle Peck show in 5 months. By this point, the whole band knew who we were. It was exciting. Danielle's shows get more and more enthusiastic everytime, gotta love her! I also met a bunch of people from the DP Fanclub at this show, good times!

September 28, 2007 - Brandi Carlile & A Fine Frenzy

Brandi Carlile & A Fine Frezny 9/28/07 @ 9:30 Club (Washington DC)

This was my Sweet 16 present! Getting to fly to this show with Samantha! We (Mom, Samantha, me) woke up at 2AM on friday morning. This was weird, considering I'm usually still awake then. We left the house at about 2:30, and drove to the Columbus airport, 2 hours away. After finally arriving there, we waited only about 40 minutes before our flight to Cleveland. It was only a 20 minute flight, but we were on that plane for like an hour. We waited for 15 minutes in Cleveland, before flying to DC finally. That's a lot of planes in a short time.

My mom and I showed Samantha around DC's touristy stuff, since she'd never been there. When it was almost 3:00, we took a cab to the 9:30. I saw Rachel outside sitting on the ground, and as we were paying the cab driver, Brandi walked outside. I hurried out of the car, and came over and said hi to Rachel. Brandi shook my hand and said, "Hi, I'm Brandi." She also asked us why we were so early, especially in the heat.

It was fun chatting with people from AT for awhile, even though I was so tired I was in some sort of trance, seriously. Rachel asked me if I won my volleyball game, and I couldn't remember if I even had one. We saw Tim and Alison walk in and out numerous times, and waved. Eventually, some staff member made us move our line a distance away from the doors. Some of us stayed in the sun against a brick wall, while the rest of you took to shade made by the bus. I got a picture with Tim and Alison. Alison was really sweet. We told her we'd been outside since 3, and she wanted to make sure we had food and water, haha.

When we were finally let in, we all took to the front row of the stage, it was pretty awesome. My mom complained she'd fall asleep during AFF's set, but she eventually got over it. I bought 2 shirts, one AFF one, and this green Brandi one I hadn't seen. It has trees on it. Finally, Alison's set started around 6. Setlist...

How These Days Grow Long was definitely one of my favorites of the night. Brandi stood right above Rachel, I think. Turpentine was awesome, I love it when she teaches the harmonies. Here's a picture of her laughing at Phil after he taught his harmony...
Photobucket

Gibb really brought energy to the songs! He played awesome, and Brandi explained that it was her great-grandfather's dobro that he was playing, and it was it's debut on the tour! That Year was beautiful, I love that song so much. Pride and Joy was awesome too! Brandi & I made intense eye contact for the second verse[:

Photobucket

The show was so amazing, and Brandi did play Bohemian Rhapsody to warm up before Love Songs. Raining in Baltimore was absolutely gorgeous. When Gibb was done, he handed 2 picks to my mom and thanked us for coming so early. =] They're so cool, I love how they say THE STORY on them!

A show to remember forever.

August 18, 2007 - John Waite (TWICE!)

John Waite 8/18/07 @ Borders (Cincinnati, OH)

Photobucket

John Waite did a tour at a bunch of Borders all over the country, with TIM HOGAN, as his bassist! I was so excited to see that they were actually coming to my local Borders, the one I go to every week! When Samantha & I got there, no one was. Tim saw us looking at cds, and came up and surprised us! He told us that they brought another guest along...LUIS!! Now we had Anna's band minus Anna and Ronny! We went and saw Luis. It was crazy that he came! It was such a fun show. Luis bought me coffee[:

Sooo, totally spontaneously, Samantha & I asked my uncle to drive us to Lousiville for John Waite's second show that day! He eventually agreed, and we made new shirts that said WE LOVE LUIS AND TIM. They loved them. Tim gave us two John Waite shirts, what a sweetheart. I love those guys. It's always such a blast to be around them. Tim also now has an obsession with how to spell Emilija.

July 27, 2007 - Cary Brothers & Priscilla Ahn

Mike Genovese, Priscilla Ahn, Cary Brothers 7/27/07 @ Grog Shop (Cleveland, OH)

Photobucket

This show. Amazing. Honestly, I had no idea who Cary Brothers was when I went to this show, I just knew that he opened for Brandi Carlile (which made him awesome). We drove the 4 hours for Priscilla Ahn =D. I met her at the Anna Nalick show a year prior, and loved her backing vocals for Joshua Radin. We kept in touch via awkward MySpace messages. When mom & I got to Cleveland, we went to the Grog early, so we could get good spots. We were there at roughly 4:30, and the doors were open. So we went in. The bartender asked us if we needed anything, and we said we were there for the show. We were then informed that the show started AFTER 10:00. Wow. We asked if we could sit in here, to which some lady retaliated saying it wasn't allowed, the bands had to soundcheck blah blah blah. At that exact moment Priscilla came walking into the venue, looking around. I gave her a really shy, subtle wave. She was like, "EMILY?" And ran over and hugged me! Then the lady let us stay[: So we watched the soundchecks and everything!

Mike, Priscilla, and Cary were all amazing. I got lots of pictures and video. And this was the first milestone in my years of Priscilla following...

June 29, 2007 - Mae, Ok Go, & The Fray

This concert was amazing, but I didn't bring my camera. We were in the FRONT ROW of the pit. It was awesome. I really loved Mae, and our reason for going was Ok Go, and of course The Fray was...The Fray. Samantha and I did go shopping at an awesome mall before the show. The Starbucks had a bar...

June 25, 2007 - Indigo Girls & Brandi Carlile

Indigo Girls & Brandi Carlile 6/25/07 @ Ravinia (Chicago, IL)

After being obsessed with Brandi Carlile [and her music] for over 3 years, I finally got to see her play for the first time! She was opening for the IG, who I had only heard a little bit of. By the end of the night, I fell in love with them. Brandi stole my heart. Since that day, she has been my favorite artist. And forever will be. Setlist...

Sixty Years On (Cover)
What Can I Say
Closer to You
Downpour
Turpentine
The Story
Folsom Prison Blues (Cover)
Cannonball (with the Indigo Girls)
Hallelujah (No surprise there)

I'm pasting this review from my MySpace blog...

My friend's mom drove us to Highland Park, about 6 hours from us. We arrived at Ravinia around 4:45. When we walked in the gates, I swore I heard Brandi's voice, and that the song was "Burn." We wandered around, and then went to take a look at the stage. Brandi was doing her soundcheck! We watched her (from a great distance) sing "Closer to You," "I've Just Seen a Face," "Follow," "Burn," and "Turpentine." Pretty cool.

We bought a bunch of merch...I got two IG shirts, two BCB shirts, and a Ravinia poster & shirt. We then sat down on a bench for the next two hours, until they finally let us into the pavillion. In the Ravinia program they spelt her name Brandy Carlile 2/4 times. =/

Once we got to the pavillion, we found that mine & my friend's seats were in the 3rd row, to the right. Pretty amazing seats. My friend's mom had a seat in the front row, just off center. She had no idea how she got that. There were two other seats in her row, belonging to HUGE IG fans. My friend's mom talked to them, saying how we drove about 400 miles to see Brandi, and the women said we could have their two seats in the front during Brandi's set, as long as they could have them back for the IG. Pretty sweet deal. That's when I called Fran (deadinmi) and told her where we were. She was with Heidi on the lawn.

Finally, the show started promptly at 8. It was just amazing, I couldn't have pictured it any better. After the first song, my friend and I stood up and yelled, "BRANDI!" She put down her water, ran around to the other side of Phil, and gave us a wave.

Another great moment was during What Can I Say. We were right infront of Phil & Josh. All of a sudden we see Josh looking at us, and he makes a gesture toward Phil, who's doing the little head bop. Josh starts obnoxiously imitating Phil, so we started laughing. Phil saw us laughing, pointed at us and laughed. Josh, seeing this, laughed at the whole scene.

During Turpentine Brandi split the crowd up for harmonies again. When she walked over to Phil, he said something like "It's really high, LADIES." and looked at us. So as Phil sings his part, Brandi cracks up, as always. The harmonies always sound so cool (=

Brandi talked up the Indigo Girls, and about how silly her little van looked following their GIANT bus around. She also told us about how she's now an aunt, and the worst part was it was her LITTLE brother who had a kid. She then talks about how it's good it was a day off, or she would have missed it. Thus leading to the "Downpour" story.

After Hallelujah we found Fran and my friend's mom in line to meet Brandi. After about 15(ish?) minutes she came. She signed my picture, and I told her I loved the song "Fall" to which she replied "Wow, cool. That was way back in the day. Glad you like it though." She signed my friend's iPod, and she said she loved "24/7." Brandi said "You do?!?" To which my friend replied "...yeah." So Brandi said "Wow you have old stuff. How the hell do people get this stuff. So old." We thanked her, and headed back to our seats, as the IG were starting.

I got a few good pictures, and quite a few videos. During the IG encore, everyone flocked to the stage, so I literally sat my camera down to film the last 3 songs. Unfortunately, it ran out at the end of Galileo, as everyone was hugging.

My video of Hallelujah, which was AMAZING, got taken off youtube for copyright infringement, sadly. Here's "The Story"

Intro post...

I came to the conclusion that I never ever wanted to forget any of the concerts I attended. My first one was in 2004, and I'm already forgetting the memories. I'm going to make a post for all of the concerts I have a full review/pictures for. To start off, here are some I won't be telling you about in detail...

March 23, 2004 - Avril Lavigne [Private Acoustic Show]; Mix 94.1: Cincinnati, OH
August 23, 2005 - Hilary Duff, Teddy Geiger, Tyler Hilton; UsBank Arena: Cincinnati, OH
August 19, 2006 - Anna Nalick, Joshua Radin; Bogart's: Cincinnati, OH
August 21, 2006 - KT Tunstall; Bogart's: Cincinnati, OH
January 13, 2007 - High School Musical, Jordan Pruitt; UsBank Arena: Cincinnati, OH

Now we can fast-forward to April '07, where it all started...

I hope you enjoy reading this, leave feedback!
